NOTES:

  • With Lamar Miller sidelined for the season after tearing his ACL on just his second snap, it is looking more likely that at least one of undrafted rookies Karan Higdon Jr. and Damarea Crockett will make the team. Even though Higdon outsnapped Crockett 40-13, Higdon logged only 28 yards on 13 carries, whereas Crockett gained 27 yards on just three carries.
  • Nick Martin saw his first action of the preseason Saturday in an underwhelming 16 snaps. Every position in the trenches is up in the air; one of last year’s starting guards, Senio Kelemete, lead the entire team in snaps, notching 93% of offensive plays. The starting line for Monday, September 9th in New Orleans is anyone’s guess at this point.
  • Christian Covington was able to get to the quarterback in his first contest against his former team. The battle for who replaces him in the defensive line rotation is neck and neck between third-year pro Carlos Watkins (33 snaps) and fifth-round rookie Charles Omenihu (35 snaps). Both failed to register a tackle, but Omenihu had three QB hits.
