2019 NFL Draft: Houston Texans Will Select 23rd

At least there’s a sliver of goodness from Saturday’s loss. I don’t know. I’m trying my best here.

The Texans lost 21-7 to the Colts on Saturday afternoon. Everyone is mad. Everyone is sad. They want Bill O’Brien gone. Whitney Mercilus should be cut or traded. Tyrann Mathieu better come back, even though he didn’t make much of a difference this season, but because he really likes being in Houston.

There isn’t anything good about falling behind 21-0 to a divisional rival in a playoff game where the offense was lost and the defense was exasperated by Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton, Dontrelle Inman, Marlon Mack, and Eric Ebron, buuuut...[in a hushed whisper] the Texans now get the 23rd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

That’s pretty good. It’s better than the 25th or 26th overall pick. The Seattle Seahawks lost on Saturday too, which will increase the value of the second round pick they owe Houston after receiving 2019 second-team All-Pro left tackle Duane Brown via trade last season.

Anyways, if you don’t want to dive in on the NFL and the playoffs now that Houston is out of it, if instead you want to remain committed to the Texans, this is what you get to look forward to. Well, this, and the $71,705,953.00 the Texans have in cap room, according to Over The Cap before they cut Demaryius Thomas to save an additional $14 million. That’s what you have until the sun comes out in March for free agency, before the flowers bloom in April for the NFL Draft, and before we all get sweaty again in July when training camp returns.

The offseason is here.
