Houston Texans Backup Quarterback Poll

McCarron, Weeden, Manziel, or...

During the Bill O’Brien era, the Houston Texans have had a carousel in the quarterback room that’s spun so fast it’s flung off more players than we can easily detail in this paragraph.

Case Keenum, Ryan Fitzpatrick, T.J. Yates, Ryan Mallett, Tom Savage, Brandon Weeden, [NAME REDACTED], Brian Hoyer, etc...

Now the Texans have brought in former Alabama star turned NFL backup AJ McCarron amidst few cheers and lots of catcalls. Having a backup quarterback who can’t successfully run the starter’s offense is always a strategy that’s puzzled me. I’ve even asked professional coaches about it and received answers that don’t make it out to be an ideal action plan. But here we are.

With that in mind, let’s see who you would rather have backing up Deshaun Watson - especially since Watson is not likely to last the season behind the same offensive line that let him suffer the most sacks in the NFL last season. Odds are, based on the current strategy shown by Texans’ brass, that stat will only get worse in 2019 due to a tougher schedule.
