With the 55th overall pick, the Texans select Max Scharping from Northern Illinois. Scharping is a big guy, a big body, who like Tytus Howard will also need to develop more. Schapring often turns the gate in pass protection. He has bad hands. His base is too narrow. And the tape is funky because he wasn’t asked to make many blocks in college.
Mike Devlin is going to have his hands full this summer trying to turn both Howard and Scharping into something more than they showed in college.
