G.B.U. Texan 28 Saints 30

Monday night football has come and gone, and the Houston Texans showed flashes of "better than expected" from all areas of play. However old demons and glaringly bad coaching reared their ugly heads to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, once again.

The Good.

50 seconds left, down 6 with no time outs and damn near the entire field to go. Deshaun Watson unleashed his inner clutch superhero and threw just two passes to put the Texans ahead and be in a great position to win the game.

That Carlos Hyde kid, I think he has a bright future ahead of him in Houston, some of those runs were just outstanding tonight, bravo zulu.

While DeAndre Hopkins had a very uncharacteristic case of the "drops" he still played like a stud, and that flag on him for unnecessary roughness? Bah, that was a phenomenal tackle.

The first half defense was most excellent in holding the Saints to just, 3 measly, points.

Did you see the stat line for Roby? TOT 9, SOLO 9 He led the team. I was very happy with his play on the whole.

The Bad.

Let's start with the halftime adjustments. The Saints who saw the weak links in the Houston Defense and exploited them to great effect and that was bad for us. Those weak links would be a one each A. Colvin. The man whose coverage skills were they Auto Insurance wouldn't rate against Fred Loya. They also realized that Romeo Crennel is married to the idea that playing 7 yards back in coverage is a good game plan. More on that later. The Texans 2nd half adjustments were... what? I saw a team come out flat and get rolled for the third quarter. Bad juju.

How does a Six Year head coach manage to blow two timeouts on one play? Yeah, we got that answered tonight. Seriously, that irked me beyond belief. I know, first half time out's aren't as important as a rule as second half, rather it's that such a thing even happened that is the problem.

The right side of the offensive line. Tunsil was not perfect, he made a few mistakes but the man's been on the job with the Texans what, 5 days? He was miles ahead of the rest of the line for 95% of the game.

The Ugly.

Remember I mention RAC and his cushion defense? Yeah, last play of the game before the field goal, and he decides it is more likely the Saints are going to try and go deep, than go for the FG so he calls what looked like a prevent defense. The high percentage play for New Orleans was to go for the FG. All they needed was 7 yards, which by the looks of it was the average cushion our secondary was giving the Saints receivers. The whole world knew what the Saints were going to go for, and the whole world collectively went "What the kitten?" When they saw the Texans line up with safeties 20 yards back.

That we lost, sucks, but to lose due to such bad play calling... inexcusable.

Bill O'Brien's "Get the lead play it safe offense" just sucks. Period. You put the spurs to it and go for the points, not lead and control. Not against Drew Brees, and not in his house on a Monday Night!

The tackling of Kamara, rather the lack of tackling. Did the coaching decide that "lower shoulder and hammer" was the new form they would go with this year? Because call me old school but wrapping up and bringing down players always seemed the smarter way to go about tackling.

Honorable mention for Ugly goes to J.J. Watt, who had a big fat 0 for his stat line. I get that the NFL has decided that holding calls against him are to be limited to one a night but this was not a good night for #99. That made me very sad. I hope he is very mad about this game, and he takes it out on the Glitter Kitties next week.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my rant, feel free to comment below.

LETS GO TEXANS TURN THIS AROUND AND GET SOME W'S!!!
