The Texans have added another defensive back to their squad, as Jaylen Watkins joins Eric Murray as the newest members of Houston’s secondary.
The #Texans are signing former #Chargers DB Jaylen Watkins to a two-year, $3 million deal, source said.

Jaylen Watkins (@jwat14): Plus special teamer. Super Bowl champ w/ Eagles. Played 31% of the def. snaps w/ LAC last season. ACL injury wiped out 2018 season. Older brother of Sammy Watkins. https://t.co/NYvo79gFMr

In surveying the reaction of Chargers fans after the news broke, I saw several fans who mentioned Watkins was solid last year in place of Derwin James, so perhaps the Texans’ newest signee can make his way into the rotation at safety. Odds are, however, that this is primarily a move to strengthen Houston’s special teams while providing the bonus of providing depth in the secondary.
What’s your reaction to the addition of Sammy Watkins’ older brother?
