2020 NFL Mock Draft: The Texans Select A Running Back

Remember the days when mock drafts only went two rounds? I barely do. It seems like these two, three, and seven round mock drafts have been around since life was huffed into ancient clay.

Even though the Texans traded their 2020 first round pick for Laremy Tunsil, they still get to participate in mock drafts since the format has expanded beyond a round or two. After all, the Texans do have a second round pick this season to improve their roster.

Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus published a two round mock draft. He had the Texans taking a running back.

57. Houston Texans – RB Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin

Taylor put up bell-cow production in his three-years at Wisconsin to the likes of which the sport has never seen. Taylor averaged over 1,300 yards a season after contact and 2,000 total rushing. He also fumbled 17 times, though, and dropped eight of his 50 catchable passes.

Battle Red Blog writer Kenneth L. had a great post on why the Texans shouldn’t draft a running back early in the 2020 NFL Draft, and I completely agree with it. If you missed it, you can read it here.

Running backs are fungible. You can find them later in the draft. They’re cheap and available in free agency. The Texans have greater and more important needs than at RB. A second round running back is a bad idea, no matter how great Mr. Taylor may be.
