For the youth, March 13th is about taking shirts off and making the pilgrimage to those sinful destinations down south. For NFL fans, this time of year is about free agency, contracts, bonuses, and dead money. Before that, teams have to evaluate internally, decide how they want to clear cap space, and finalize which unrestricted free agents they want to keep around.

This is Part One of a two-part offseason preview. In this opening salvo, Matt and BFD discuss pre-agency; in Part II, they discuss free agency. Topics in this episode include whether 2019 is something to build on for Houston; where the Texans need to improve; how much money we would give Darren Fells, Carlos Hyde, and other impending free agents who played in Houston last year; and which current players on the roster who are still under contract for 2020 we would release to create additional cap space. It’s the disco before the breakdown.
