Texans To Allow Season Ticket Holders To Opt Out Of Paying For 2020 NFL Season

As the sports universe comes to grips with the current pandemic, your Houston Texans are providing some interesting potential solutions for their season ticket holders. An email went out last night that gives fans who are on the hook for every home game at NRG Stadium three choices.

It’s understandable that there are some folks out there who don’t feel the 2020 NFL season will go off without a hitch. Or at all. With the ongoing issues surrounding COVID-19, the risk of losing games is very, very real. The Texans appear to recognize that, so they’re giving their frequent customers options.

Option 1:

• Keep your seats. This means that you don’t have to do anything on your part. You’re paying for the 2020 season as though it’ll proceed as usual.

Option 2:

• You can choose to defer the cost of your tickets to next (2021) season. The Texans keep your money, but it’s applied to the 2021 season ticket package. Basically, you’re paying for the 2021 season with your 2020 dollars. As an incentive for doing this (and thus allowing the Texans to keep your money for free for a year), season ticket holders will receive a 10% credit (15% for Club Level season ticket holders who are willing to extend their PSL an extra year) towards food, beverage, and merchandise at NRG Stadium in 2021. Everyone will retain their original seats. The upside for the Texans—they can sell your seats for the 2020 season to someone else; you get ‘em back in 2021, but other people can pay to use them in 2020.

Option 3:

• You get a refund for what you paid for your 2020 season tickets and you resume paying in 2021. The money will get back to you through your original payment method up to 15 days from request. If you choose to do this, Cal McNair will presumably weep.

This is part of a larger effort by the NFL to ensure that fans have options during these trying times. Third party retailers such as Ticketmaster and Seat Geek are also making full refunds available to consumers. With Corona virus looming over the sporting world, the health of players through training camp will go a long way in deciding whether or not we have a full season.

A 10-15% percent credit for drinks, food, and Texans gear is tempting. That’ll cover nearly three beers!
