#99. Deep steel blue, liberty white, and battle red. Iconic. That number, these jerseys, strewn across the City of Houston for the last ten years will eventually find its way sealed in Canton. Buzzed head. Stern look. Eventually, it’ll be sculpted in bronze. J.J. Watt. An all-time great, the greatest player in Texans franchise history and one of the greatest, if not the greatest, defensive linemen to ever play the game.

20.5 sacks twice. 50 plus quarterback hits multiple times. He made fumble recoveries a skill. He showcased the value of batting passes down at the line of scrimmage. THE CLUB. The broken nose gushing after every series. An entire leg bruised purple. A torn pectoral. Back surgery. Broken leg. J.J. Watt gave it all to the franchise, this fanbase, and now, after ten years, it’s all gone.

Dream big. Work hard. Success isn’t owned; it’s leased, and rent is due everyday. The Texans released J.J. Watt to create $17.5 million in cap space. A decade, an entire era, has come to a close.
