Tyrell Adams was an undrafted free agent who caught on with the then Oakland Raiders in 2016. From there, he worked his way to the Texans roster and, after bouncing around Houston’s practice squad for two seasons, found his way into the starting lineup in 2020.

Benardrick McKinney made it through four games last season before exiting the fray because of shoulder surgery. This gave Adams an opportunity, and he mad ethe most of it. Adams started 12 games next to Zach Cunningham, posting 125 total tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 3 quarterback hits, and 2 sacks. Adams performed admirably in McKinney’s wake, thrust out of nowhere, doing a little bit of everything with McKinney out.

Rather than keep Adams around, the Texans decided to sign numerous other linebackers instead. Joe Thomas, Christian Kirksey, Kevin Pierre-Louis, and others were brought to Houston in the last couple of weeks. As a result, Adams was left to pursue free agency elsewhere. In his search, he found a home in Buffalo and will join Josh Allen and the Bills.

Adams is now insurance for Tremaine Edmund, A.J. Klein, and Matt Milano. He could play meaningful football if injuries mount up.

In Houston, there are multiple linebackers of Adams’ talent level that will fill his place. Best of luck to him in Western New York.
