Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio and alleged team ‘culture-killa’ Jack Easterby continued overloading the Houston Texans roster in the name of competition yesterday. This time, they brought in yet another Cleveland Brown castoff, wide receiver Taywan Taylor.
Texans have signed former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Taywan Taylor to a one-year contract for the veteran minimum, according to a league source.

Prior to his selection by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Taylor was projected as a third or fourth round pick. In his first season with the Titans, Taylor was targeted 26 times; he caught 16 passes for 231 yards and 1 touchdown. In 2018, he was targeted 55 times, catching 37 passes for 466 yards and 1 touchdown. This earned him his highest career PFF overall grade of 70.0 for the season. Promising!
In August of 2019, the Titans traded Taylor to the Cleveland Brown for a 2020 seventh round draft pick. So much for promising. In 2019, Taylor was the target of one pass. Yeah, one. And he didn’t catch it. This is where “promising” goes to die. In 2020, Taylor was again targeted once and failed to catch the ball. Let’s shovel more dirt on the grave of “promising”.
For his career, Taylor has started ten games over the last four seasons, catching 53 of the 86 passes thrown his way, averaged 19.9 yards per game, and scored 2 touchdowns. His PFF overall career grade is 55.97. Taylor will join a receiving corps featuring Brandin Cooks, Randall Cobb, Keke Coutee, Nico Collins, Chris Conley, Isaiah Coulter, Chris Moore, Andre Roberts, Donte Moncrief, Alex Erickson, and Steven Mitchell.
Roster logic dictates that no more than five or six of those guys will make Houston’s final roster. But then again, Caserio and Easterby have brought in 53 linebackers this offseason, so who knows what passes for logic in NRG Park these days?
Taylor will also get the chance to catch passes from any number of quarterbacks not named Deshaun Watson. Although Watson won’t be here, now Jeff Driskel will. The Texans added him to their quarterback room, where he will join Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills, and Ryan Finley.
