2021 Houston Texans Practice Squad Tracker

A rolling update on the Texans practice squad.

NFL: Houston Texans at Dallas Cowboys Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Texans announced their first 53 man roster of the season yesterday along with the rest of the league as they hit their mandatory maximum to meet the NFL’s deadline. The recently unemployed headed for waivers, which allowed teams to make claims before players became unrestricted free agents once again. The Texans, despite having a high waiver wire priority thanks to last year’s 4-12 record, chose not to make claims on any waived players.

Attention now shifts to teams putting their practice squads together. Thus far, Houston has added quarterback Jeff Driskel, wide receiver Jordan Veasy, offensive lineman Carson Green, offensive lineman Ryan McCollum, safety Jonathan Owens, tight end Antony Auclair, cornerback Isaiah Johnson, and wide receiver Chris Moore to their taxi squad.

Teams can add up to sixteen players to their practice squads. With five running backs on the roster, Bradley Roby suspended for the season opener, and eight spots remaining, there is more work and uncertainty left. Nick Caserio loves veteran players, and there are plenty of vets left without a team at the moment. We’ll update this post as additional signings are reported.

UPDATE: Shyheim Carter has made Houston’s practice squad, leaving up to seven spots still available.

UPDATE II: Six spots remain, as Antonio Phillips joins the crew.

UPDATE III: Tight End/Fullback Paul Quessenberry, offensive lineman Lane Taylor, defensive end Derek Rivers are all joining the practice squad.

UPDATE IV: Mark Berman has a complete list of the Texans’ initial 2021 practice squad.
