Houston Texans open as slight underdog against Titans in Week 15

Welcome to hate week.

NFL: Houston Texans at New York Jets
I’ll be over here, crying.
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

You know what? After last week, I’m fine being an underdog again. In fact, after last week, I suspect the Houston Texans will be underdogs in every game left on the schedule (two against The Forces Of Evil, Inc., one against the Indianapolis Colts, and one against the Cleveland Browns and their cowardly starting quarterback who I will not be naming here.

This week is the first hate week of the season as the Houston Texans travel to Satan’s Toll Crossing, otherwise known as Nashville, where they will take on the BESFs.

Will the BESFs try to make this a game, or will they simply be content to wear another team’s jerseys out of a pathetic attempt to troll their betters down in Houston because they have no sense of self and have to pretend to be another team to feel better about themselves as people?

Probably both, but definitely the second part.

Anyway, here are the opening odds for this week’s game, from DraftKings Sportsbook.

Opening Odds for Week 15

Points

FAVORED: Flaming Thumbtacks (-2.5)
UNDERDOG: Houston Texans (+2.5)

Note: For those of you who aren’t aware of the meaning, the points are a handicap system. So in this case, imagine the game and before the kickoff even happens, someone has spotted the Texans 2.5 points.

So basically a point line, in this case, is giving the Texans a 2.5-0 head start. And the BESFs have to win by at least three points to beat the spread. If they beat the Texans by three or more points, the BESFs win the bet. Since the line is 2.5 points there is no chance for a push.

Over/Under: 38

Note: This one is pretty straightforward. You decide whether you think the total combined score will be more or less than 38 points.

Moneyline:

BESFs (-135)
Houston Texans (+114)

Note: This one is a little more complicated. The best way to imagine it is if you have $100 to bet initially. If you bet your $100 on the Texans and they win the game, you get $214 (your initial $100, plus the $114 from the win). If you take the BESFs moneyline, but why on earth would you, you have to bet $135 to win $100 for a total of $235 ($135 initial bet, plus the $100 you get from the win).

Go Texans. [Kitten] the BESFs.
