Quick Hits: Houston Texans vs. New York Jets Preview

It’s the Derek Stingley vs Sauce Gardner bowl.

NFL: Denver Broncos at Houston Texans Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

While the unfortunate Tank Dell news and all the hype around C.J. Stroud, who is currently second in the Pro Bowl voting, is getting most of the attention, Derek Stingley vs Sauce Gardner is the story this weekend. DraftKings Sportsbook has the Houston Texans as 3.5-point favorites as they take on the New York Jets.

This game is the 10th matchup between the Texans and Jets, with H-Town winning three of the past four, but NY taking six of the nine original meetings.

Speaking of Sting, he won AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his outing against the Denver Broncos last Sunday. Sting is the third player in Texans history with 4+ passes defensed and 2+ interceptions in the same game.

Houston Texans

Derek Stingley Jr. has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week!

Stingley Jr. earned the honor after his elite performance in the club’s 22-17 victory over the Denver Broncos this past Sunday.

In Week 13, Stingley Jr. finished with one tackle, two interceptions and four passes defensed. He tied or led the league outright in both interceptions and passes defensed, while becoming the only player in the NFL to record four interceptions over a three-game stretch in 2023. Additionally, he’s just the third player this season to record an interception in three consecutive games.

Hopefully he tops that this weekend.

Speaking of ultra-talented rookie quarterback Stroud, he had some pretty high praise for Sting this week:

What will Sting do to Trevor Siemian and the New York Jets offense? For starters, Siemian will likely shy away from throwing anywhere near Sting.

QB C.J. STROUD passed for 274 yards with TD vs. zero INTs & 106.1 rating last week, his eighth game this season with 250+ pass yards, tied second-most ever by rookie. CB SAUCE GARDNER has PD in two of past three. Has 28 career PD, tied third-most in NFL since 2022.

All this to say, Sting, Stroud and the gang FTW.
