Your Houston Texans currently sit 12th out of 16 teams in the AFC Playoff Picture. One of the teams ahead of them is today’s opponent, the Indianapolis Colts, who are precariously perched in the seventh and final AFC playoff spot as the third wild card team.
No matter what happens today, I believe it’s safe to say the Texans’ season will end on January 3rd when they host the Tennessee Titans in Week 17. Houston’s playoff hopes likely died in Week 4 when they lost to the Vikings to open the season 0-4; if not then, dreams of a postseason berth were definitely slain in Week 10 with a loss to the Browns.
That doesn’t, however, mean there’s nothing to play for. The Texans can still spoil, or at least negatively impact, the seasons of the Colts and Titans. There’s also the matter of the Texans doing their level best to ensure the first and second round picks Houston sent to to the Dolphins in the Laremy Tunsil trade aren’t as embarrassingly high as they could be. Is this the optimal way to watch December football? Of course not. But it is our reality, and we must embrace it.
If nothing else, close your eyes and remember the many, many years we didn’t get to witness a legitimately outstanding quarterback suit up for our beloved squad. Now recall that you get to watch Deshaun Watson lead your favorite team. Open your eyes. Better, no?
As we wait for the first quarter thread to post at 11:45 a.m. CST, this is where you can share your pre-game thoughts, hopes, and fears as the Texans make their final preparations to face the Colts. Enjoy your Sunday morning.
