Depending on when you read this, your Houston Texans are mere hours, minutes, or, dare I say it, SECONDS from your Houston Texans kicking off the NFL’s 2020 season by battling the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday Night Football (on Thursday evening, naturally). I suppose you could technically be one of those demented souls who reads posts counting down to a game after said game has already been played, but no matter! Football is back in our lives!
The Texans faced the Chiefs twice at Arrowhead last year. The first occasion was a glorious regular season win in October, perhaps the best and most unexpected victory of the 2019 season. The second contest was one I am much less enthusiastic about recalling and ended the Texans’ season in memorable fashion.
But that was last year! This year is this year! The slate has been wiped clean of DeAndre Hopkins, and Week One is as good a time as any for Bill O’Brien’s charges to show that this is a new unit with a nonexistent memory. As we have come to known all too well the last six months, 2020 is not 2019. Let’s settle in and get ready to enjoy a fresh season of honest to goodness Houston Texans football, shall we?
