I’ve always liked the idea of Browns versus Broncos as a BIG and fun and interesting game. All that orange on the field? Where do you get off? It just feels like one of those games that was big and important back in the 1980s, back when things were actually cool instead of just cybersick flatulence. That was something I wasn’t around for, never got to enjoy, back when this thing that I am wasn’t even a thought in the universe. Not even soup in a belly.
Tonight, this game doesn’t matter. Maybe one day it will. The Browns are 5-7-1 and the Broncos are 6-7. Fire Vance Joseph tomorrow. The Broncos played too well this year not to make the NFL Playoffs; they have too good of a defense and run game to be where they are. They were set up perfectly to run the table and get the sixth seed in the AFC, too. At San Francisco, home for Cleveland, at Oakland, and home for San Diego in a game what probably won’t matter for Philip Rivers. They lost to the 49ers last week. Case Keenum threw for like 112 yards.
Although it doesn’t matter, tonight’s game has to be played. Von Miller will try to pad his sack numbers. Same with Bradley Chubb, who will probably win Defensive Rookie of the Year instead of Derwin James or Darius Leonard, because of the sacks he has. Baker Mayfield will throw the ball really far. Phillip Lindsay is so ‘Rado, brah.
And, I don’t know, this game may still be fun even if it doesn’t have playoff implications.
It’s your Saturday night. You do you. If you choose to watch this game, here’s your open thread to discuss it.
