Give Jon Gruden a ten year contract, they said.
It’ll be fun, they said.
Surely he won’t trade away the best player on the team in his first offseason as coach, they said.
For many, the news of Jon Gruden’s departure from the MNF football booth was a blessing. Never again would we spend hours pondering his bleatings about grinders and how he loved them so. Never again would we marvel at the weird meshing of the dialects of Ohio and Alabama.
Despite all of this, Oakland must now soldier on without their best player and a coach who thinks the ‘‘hot new look’’ is trying to look like a tomato:
"Obviously, Khalil Mack didn't want to be here."

Going up against the Raiders tonight are Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams, who did actually decide to pay their star defensive player even after he held out. What a novel idea that is!
