It’s not David Johnson’s fault he was traded by the Cardinals to the Texans for DeAndre Hopkins. Johnson never asked to be the stock photo next to the entry on “Awful Trades In American Sports History.” As Aaron Reiss noted in an excellent piece earlier this week, it’s all taken a significant toll on the running back. David Johnson often bears the brunt of the frustration of a city’s football fans despite not being responsible for the events that inspired the animus in the first place. It, like life, ain’t fair.
I’m going to try to remember that today every time the cameras cut to DeAndre Hopkins or J.J. Watt (and they will, frequently, because it’s (1) easy and (2) quite likely both beloved former Texans play a sizable role in today’s contest). My initial reaction will be to curse David Johnson, to curse Bill O’Brien, to curse Jack Easterby, and to curse Cal McNair. One of those four gentlemen doesn’t deserve the ire he gets, so I’ll do my best to spare him that wrath throughout what all signs indicate will be a lopsided affair in the desert this afternoon.
With that said, prepare to forfeit your soul. The reckoning is upon us. Texans-Cardinals begins. We await your biting commentary.
